The San Marco quarter was considered in the past as the political and religious centre of the town and was populated by the nobility. It’s still today the heart of the Serenissime and the historical centre of Venice. It contains the most beautiful palaces, museums and churches of the town. This is one of the reasons why it is the most frequented quarter in the city of the Doges and why you can now find many luxury hotels and shops. This is a priority in anyone’s guide !!!
Interest touristic 




Saint Marc square which Napoleon called the “most beautiful lounge in the world” is the most visited part of Venice : not to be missed. The square is surrounded by remarkable monuments like the Saint Marc basilica and its oriental domes, a 98m high campanile that the Venetians call “the master house”, the Doges palace which was the seat of the government and the justice, the Correr museum, the clock tower...There is also the Florian and the Quadri, two of the most well known cafés in Venice. Just next to the piazzo San Marco, the “piazzetta” is a small square which offers a superb view of the San Marco basin and over San Georgio Maggiore. Don’t hesitate in fleeing the crowds on the San Marco square to discover other squares nearby like Santo Stefano, San Maurizio, Manin, Sant’Angelo, San Samuele, the churches of Santa Maria del Giglio and San Luca as well as the palaces of Pisani, Fortuny, Grassi and Contarini del Bovolo. You must now surely understand : the San Marco quarter is full of treasures !
